Design and Control of Two-Stage DC-AC Solid-State Transformer for Remote Area and Microgrid Applications

The critical challenges with integrating renewable energy into the grid are smooth power flow control, isolation between high-voltage and low-voltage networks, voltage regulation, harmonic isolation, quality regulation. This paper considers design construction of a two-stage DC-AC solid-state transformer based on wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technologies, an optimized medium-frequency transformer, PI dq controllers for supplying urban area electric drive systems microgrid applications. designed SST consists dual active bridge (DAB) DC-DC converter followed by three-phase inverter. Each stage was simulated independent controllers. proposed system initially developed in MATLAB/Simulink laboratory prototype constructed to verify results experimentally. Resistive inductive load were used test disturbance evaluate regulation performance. work has comprehensively provided performance double (DC-DC converter) taking consideration input voltage, disturbance, tracking both simulation experiment. its controller is able maintain desired output reference minimal ripples under fluctuations variations. Similarly, converter’s exhibits better producing well-regulated AC low distortion.
